Manchester City without four first-teamers for Schalke clash but Kompany returns

Manchester City will be without Benjamin Mendy, Fabian Delph, John Stones and Gabriel Jesus for tomorrow night’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Schalke in Gelsenkirchen.

The quartet haven’t flown to Germany, but Vincent Kompany is finally back from an injury picked up in the 2-1 win over Liverpool early in January and is included.

Young defender Philippe Sandler, who was added to the revised Champions League squad for the knock-out stage, also flies.

Stones and Jesus have sustained muscular injuries and it isn’t yet clear how long the two will be out for.

The full 20-man squad that has travelled to Germany:

Goalkeepers: Ederson, Aro Muric, Daniel Grimshaw

Defenders: Kyle Walker, Danilo, Philippe Sandler, Vincent Kompany, Aymeric Laporte, Nicolas Otamendi, Olkesandr Zinchenko

Midfielders: Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden

Forwards: Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sané, Sergio Aguero
