Manchester City set to reward Aymeric Laporte with improved contract – report

He is only one season into a five-year contract but Aymeric Laporte is in line for a new deal, Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail reports.

Manchester City broke their club record in January 2018 to recruit Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for £57 million and it has proven to be money well spent, with the Basque-French defender becoming one of Pep Guardiola’s most reliable performers.

The Premier League champions are ready to reward Laporte with a new and improved contract, with Txiki Begiristain now in talks with the player’s representatives.

Laporte, who can expect a significant pay rise with his new deal, is expected to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium without any hitches, as City continue to tie down their key players to long-term contracts.

The 24-year-old has played in EVERY Premier League game for City this season, starting 26 of them and appearing as a sub once – an incredible statistic given the heavy rotation in City’s squad and a sign of just how important Laporte has become.
