Manchester City will lose young prospect Kane Ritchie-Hosler to Scottish side Rangers in the summer, after he signed a pre-contract with Steven Gerrard’s side.
The 16-year-old forward’s transfer to Ibrox was confirmed by Rangers TV commentator Tom Miller during the SPL side’s 0-0 draw with St Johnstone on Saturday.
Ritchie-Hosler is an important player in City’s under-16 side but has decided to swap the City Football Academy for Rangers’ youth set-up at the end of the season.
Rangers currently have City’s former academy director Mark Allen employed as their director of football, which could be linked to this deal.
City are seeing more and more youth players depart the club for promises of quicker pathways to first-team football, with Jadon Sancho, Brahim Diaz and Rabbi Matondo the three most high profile examples of late.
Ritchie-Hosler is younger than that trio and it remains to be seen if City come to regret losing the teenager to Rangers.
