Manchester City and Chelsea get same Carabao Cup final referee as their last Wembley clash

Manchester City and Chelsea will have a familiar face in charge of the Carabao Cup final later this month, with Jon Moss appointed referee for the Wembley clash.

It was 48-year-old Moss who had the whistle when the same teams also met at Wembley back in August for the pre-season Community Shield, a game Pep Guardiola’s City side won 2-0.

Since then, City have been under Moss’ charge just once for the 5-0 league win over Burnley back in October.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have had Moss FOUR times since the Community Shield, with a fairly patchy record. He oversaw their 4-1 home win over Cardiff in September and Carabao Cup fourth round win over Derby in October, but since then they’ve had very little joy under Moss.

Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves in December and 0-0 draw with Southampton in early January both had Moss in charge.

Martin Atkinson will serve as the Video Assistant Referee for the final.

The 2019 Carabao Cup final between Manchester City and Chelsea is set to kick off at 4:30pm on Sunday 24 February.
