Manchester City and Manchester United are in contact with the entourage of highly-rated Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele but trail two Italian giants in the race for him, Le 10 Sport reports.
City have long been linked with the impressive 22-year-old, who shone for OL against the Blues in the Champions League earlier this season, and had a big money bid rejected for him last summer.
The extent of City’s current interest is unclear, but it is claimed in France that the Premier League champions and neighbours Manchester United are keeping in touch with his representatives, though have yet to really start discussions.
That has allowed Juventus and Inter to move ahead in the duel for Ndombele, with Juventus in particular taking a strong position and discussing figures for the player, while Inter have also made ‘serious contact’.
Spanish leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid have also expressed some interest in French international Ndombele, but have not taken that any further lately.
Manchester City chief Txiki Begiristain will have to make his move soon if City still want Ndombele, though it is entirely possible the Blues are favouring other targets now, with Ndombele’s Lyon teammate, Houssem Aouar, said to have impressed Pep Guardiola and his staff.
City missed out on number one target Frenkie de Jong, who is joining Barcelona from Ajax in the summer, and must identify another player as the long-term successor for Fernandinho in the ‘No 6’ role.
