Sergio Aguero’s hat-trick against Arsenal moved him one step closer to going level with Alan Shearer for the most Premier League hat-tricks of all time.
The Argentine sunk Arsenal with his tenth Premier League hat-trick, moving him into outright second place after he had been tied with Liverpool great Robbie Fowler on nine.
Shearer holds the record for most hat-tricks with eleven, meaning Sergio is just one behind him now and could go on to match then break it.
Asked by the official Premier League website if he’d be happy for Kun to reset the record, Shearer gave his approval.
“Yes, I will, because there is a respect there. He will break my record,” said Shearer.
The former Blackburn and Newcastle star is a huge fan of 30-year-old Aguero and believes Pep Guardiola has turned him into a better player.
“He [Guardiola] has made him a better player. He is just phenomenal, a very good team player also.
“I am a huge fan. I can’t see how you can’t be because week after week, month after month, year after year, he delivers, and that’s what you need from big players.”
Aguero has needed just 227 matches to score his 10 hat-tricks, compared to 441 matches for Shearer’s 11. Creeping up on both of them though, is Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who has an impressive 8 hat-tricks in 154 appearances.
