Manchester City have made a late approach for D.C. United playmaker Luciano Acosta, who Paris Saint-Germain are trying to sign today, The Washington Post reports.
Acosta, 24, is a diminutive playmaker standing just 5’3″ tall, but is one of the best players in America’s Major League Soccer, and PSG are working on a deal to sign him today, according to reports.
However, City and an unnamed club are reported to have made ’11th hour’ approaches according to sources ‘who requested anonymity because they were not permitted to discuss the matter’.
Argentine midfielder Acosta, who plays alongside Wayne Rooney at D.C. United, is currently in Europe in case he needs to undergo a medical ahead of any transfer.
D.C. United have already turned down a US$7.5 million (£5.7 million) offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal, so any successful bidder will have to top that to acquire the former Boca Juniors man.
