Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is on the verge of completing his protracted move to Arsenal in a deal that could prove to be lucrative for the player’s former club, Manchester City.
After negotiations broke down, the move is back on with Suarez, 25, expected to swap Barcelona for London imminently on an initial loan deal.
Arsenal will have the option to buy the former City youth player in the summer for £20 million and City could profit, having placed a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that sent him to Barcelona.
That means if Arsenal buy Suarez for £20 million, City stand to make £4 million on Suarez, who continues to make money for his former club.
City have been receiving regular payments for Denis due to a clause that sees them receive €800,000 from Barcelona for every 10 appearances (maximum 100 appearances) made. He recently played his 70th game for Barcelona, taking the bonuses from that clause to €5.6 million.
And if Arsenal decide to make his upcoming loan move from Barcelona permanently, the Blues can expect to pocket another £4 million on Suarez.
