Schalke 04 are in advanced talks to sign Wales international Rabbi Matondo from Manchester City, Sky Germany reports this evening.
This comes after BILD reported that Schalke, who City face soon in the Champions League Round of 16, had a bid knocked back by City for the speedy winger.
City have been demanding £10 million for Matondo, who has yet to feature for Pep Guardiola’s first team, but are now said to be letting him join Schalke for a ‘slightly reworked offer’.
Sky Germany explain that the clubs are only one or two details away from finalising the deal, which will see Matondo follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho by quitting City for the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich, Borussia Monchengladbach, RB Leipzig, Everton and Southampton have also been keen on Matondo, but unless of any major twist it appears Schalke have won the race for him.
Further details should clarify what clauses City have included in the deal, with the likelihood being that they pushed for buy-back and sell-on clauses, as they have with most promising talents sold recently.
