Monaco boss Thierry Henry considered Man City defender this winter – report

Eliaquim Mangala was considered by Monaco head coach Thierry Henry as a winter reinforcement, according to France Football.

27-year-old Mangala is fit again after a long-term injury sustained while on loan at Everton a year ago, but has yet to feature for Manchester City this season and is behind John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi in the pecking order.

The former French international is out of contract in June and has been linked with Inter, Galatasaray and other clubs this month, but no transfer has materialised of yet.

And it is reported that Monaco put some serious consideration into a move for Mangala, before deciding against it due to his lack of appearances and fitness, and instead capturing Naldo from City’s next Champions League opponents Schalke.

Mangala’s future remains uncertain but he has been involved in training ahead of tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Burton Albion and with Pep Guardiola planning mass rotation, Mangala could make a rare appearance for the Blues.
