The Frenkie de Jong transfer saga is over with news from Spain tonight that the Ajax midfielder has decided to join Barcelona, despite having been very close to Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester City had become the outsider in the race in recent times, but were still active until De Jong made his decision, with both City and PSG aware of his choice to make Camp Nou his new home.
The news was broken on Club de la Mitjanit by journalist Oriol Domènech, who has been on top of the De Jong saga all the way through.
Domènech said that De Jong’s representative has informed City and PSG of his decision to join Barcelona. Barcelona chiefs are planning to travel to Amsterdam tomorrow to close the deal, which seems likely to be a summer move.

For City, the search goes on for a long-term Fernandinho successor, with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon), Allan (Napoli) and Ruben Neves (Wolves) thought to be on Pep’s radar.
