The midfielder, who turned 16 at the weekend and has been stylistically compared to Yaya Touré, received attractive offers from City and Juventus, with Chelsea also making a late approach for him.
City had expected the player to arrive in Manchester last weekend to finalise terms, but Barcelona made a much improved offer, both in sporting and economic terms, that made the youngster have a change of heart.
And now SPORT claims that Ilaix has completely agreed a new three-year deal with Barcelona after several meetings between his representatives and the Catalan club this week.
After luring Eric Garcia and Adrian Bernabe from La Masia, City have missed out on Ilaix Moriba – but could turn their attention to Barcelona’s under-16 captain Jorge Alastuey, who the Premier League side are now said to be after.
