Barcelona are favourites to keep hold of one of La Masia’s biggest prospects, Ilaix Moriba, but it is claimed that Manchester City are not yet out of the race.
Gerard Romero had told Esports RAC1 that Ilaix was set to pen a new Barcelona deal, snubbing offers from City and Juventus in the process, but one of his Catalan colleagues has slightly different information.
Albert Rogé of SPORT has news that while Barcelona are now in pole position to renew Ilaix’s stay at the club, Manchester City continue to insist that the teenager, who turns 16 on Saturday, will be a Citizen.
City expected the tall midfielder, compared stylistically to former City and Barça star Yaya Touré, to finalise a move to the Etihad Stadium this coming Sunday, but an improved offer from Barcelona has changed the situation.
Barcelona’s offer is very high both in economic and sporting terms, and after analysing it, the player’s representatives submitted a counteroffer. Barcelona asked for four or five days to make a decision, during which time Ilaix will not train to avoid getting injured.
Upon turning 16 this weekend, the midfield prodigy can sign a professional contract. If Barça accept the conditions requested by Ilaix’s representatives, then the likelihood is he will remain in Catalonia. If not, then Manchester City, who still have confidence of a deal, will all but certainly land one of Barcelona’s great young prospects, who would follow in the footsteps of Eric Garcia and Adrian Bernabe.
On Monday there will be a final outcome as to where Ilaix Moriba continues his development: will it be Barcelona or Manchester City?
