Manchester City have agreed an €8 million (£7.1 million) deal with Hajduk Split for Croatia under-19 captain Ante Palaversa, Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia reports.
Palaversa, 18, is one of Croatian football’s most promising midfielders and will spend the rest of the season on loan at Hajduk, with City to pay Hajduk extra bonuses depending on how many appearances the teenager makes in the second part of the season.
According to Di Marzio, Pep Guardiola is ‘bewitched’ by Palaversa and ‘sees Fernandinho in him’, making the young Croat a potential long-term successor for Manchester City’s important Brazilian midfielder.
It remains to be seen if the acquisition of Palaversa affects City’s pursuit of a high-level ‘No. 6’, with Fernandinho turning 34 in May, but will give Guardiola another long-term option to replace arguably the most important player in his squad right now.
