Colombia midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero appears to have confirmed recent stories of interest from Manchester City in signing him.
According to reports in his homeland, the 25-year-old, who is on loan at Argentine giants River Plate from FC Porto, is a surprise target for the Premier League champions.
And while you’d be forgiven for believing it to be a throwaway transfer window story, the player himself has now confirmed meetings have been held between his representative and City bosses to discuss the possibility of a transfer.
“My agent has had a meeting with Manchester City, which makes me very proud,” Quintero told Radio Continental.
He added: “But if I’m to return to Europe it has to be for the benefit of all, but just a financial thing.”
Quintero is under contract at Porto until 2021 but River Plate were given an option to buy him when they loaned him, something they could trigger before potentially selling him for a big profit.
The talented midfielder is happy in Argentina and suggested he could even turn down a move to Europe to stay at River.
“I’m a River Plate fan and I want to stay here, and the president knows that.”
