Pep Guardiola knows a defeat to Liverpool on Thursday night could be fatal for Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title. It’s a huge Clash of the Titans at the Etihad tomorrow and ahead of the game, Guardiola spoke to the media today.
The big news from Pep was that Kevin De Bruyne has trained ahead of the Liverpool clash. It doesn’t guarantee he will play, but it gives him a fighting chance.
“De Bruyne trained today,” said Guardiola. “He is much better – but we will check again tomorrow.”
Guardiola knows tomorrow offers the Blues a huge opportunity to improve their title hopes as it’d reduce the gap to 4 points.
“I have a feeling there is a big opportunity for us to reduce the gap (at the top of the table). People asking what we will do if we lose, but we are going to try to win the game, be there and have a chance to fight for the league.”
However, Liverpool are top of the pack, unbeaten, and in great form, as Pep pointed out.
“Liverpool are in top form. It is a good challenge for us. We are focused on what we have to do to win the game. We are going to try and after we will analyse.”
Will City dip into the transfer market this month? The answer was the same from Guardiola, with a slight addendum this time.
“Third time I answer the question. No (new signings). We will live with that situation. Maybe I change my mind tomorrow.”
