Manchester City could face competition for Benfica midfielder Tiago Dantas, despite the teenager having already flown to Manchester recently to advance a move to the Premier League champions.
Tiago, 18, visited the club’s facilities with his agent after Christmas and most indications from Portugal are that he’ll pledge himself to the Premier League champions for a summer move.
However, according to A Bola, one of City’s Champions League rivals are making a play for the gifted creative midfielder, with Shakhtar Donetsk coach Paulo Fonseca hoping to recruit the player.
The fact that Tiago’s contract is up in June makes him an attractive target for many European clubs, and from tomorrow (1 January 2019) he can commit himself freely to a club of his choosing.
Benfica have not completely given up on keeping the youngster, considered one of their best prospects, but have been unable to match the offers coming from abroad.
And while it appears City remain in pole position to sign Tiago Dantas, they could yet face late interest from Shakhtar Donetsk and potentially other suitors.
