Manchester City’s left-back target revealed – but no transfer planned until summer

Manchester City have made Leicester City and England’s Ben Chilwell a left-back target for the summer transfer window, Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail reports.

Chilwell, who turned 22 last week, is said to have impressed Guardiola, who saw him first-hand on Wednesday night as Leicester beat City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium to deliver a blow to City’s title hopes.

Although recently rumoured to be a January target, any move for Chilwell will not be until the summer transfer window, it is reported.

Despite a drop in form and a couple of areas in the squad requiring attention, notably the defensive midfield role, City maintain that they have no plans to dip into the market for any major signings in the New Year.

For the second season running, City are without a specialist left-back due to a long-term injury to Benjamin Mendy, meaning Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko have again been filling the gap. Delph, who has been unable to repeat his form from last season in the role, is suspended for three games following his straight red card against Leicester.

Guardiola will look to remedy the left-back problem in the summer by moving for Chilwell, who while likely to set City back another £50 million or so, would provide the club with another England international for the homegrown quota.
