Manchester City’s supposed interest in Colombian World Cup star Juan Fernando Quintero came out of nowhere on Christmas Day, with EL VBAR claiming Pep Guardiola was interested in signing the 25-year-old.
Just a rumour? Perhaps, but one of Colombia’s biggest sources has backed up the report with Antena 2 also reporting that City are keen on Quintero, who is currently on loan at River Plate from FC Porto, with the Argentine giants having an option to buy.
However, City face competition if they hope to sign Quintero, with AC Milan also in for the talented midfielder and seriously considering a bid.
And while interest is arriving from Europe, a wealthy Chinese Super League club has made an offer and are willing to pay US$20 million (£15.8 million) for the player.
It was reported by EL VBAR that Pere Guardiola, the agent and older brother of Pep Guardiola, could be involved in any deal that would see Quintero land at the Etihad Stadium.
One thing Antena 2 states with certainty is that Juan Fernando Quintero will not play for River Plate next year, with his future likely to be between Manchester City or AC Milan, with the lure of China in the background.
