Manchester City are on the verge of signing one of Portugal’s most promising teenagers on a free transfer after Tiago Dantas flew into England with his agent.
City have been expected to sign central midfielder Dantas from Benfica, but the deal is now one step closer with the player reportedly in Manchester to finalise a move.
According to Record, Dantas, who turned 18 on Christmas Eve, will join City on a five-year deal when his Benfica contract is up in June 2019.
A creative midfielder, Dantas has been described as a ‘sensation’ and his move to City is seen as a blow for Benfica, who had big hopes for him. Though small in stature, Dantas is said to have excellent technique and an ability to read the game.
The Portugal under-19 international has been playing for Benfica’s B team in the second tier of Portuguese football, while also starring in the UEFA Youth League.
City’s plan for the talented teen is unknown, whether he’ll play for the under-23s, head out on loan, or perhaps even be integrated into Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans.
