Fenerbahce have taken steps towards a January deal for Manchester City’s forgotten man Eliaquim Mangala, Takvim reports.
The 27-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has been recovering from a serious knee injury sustained while on loan at Everton.
City are open to offers for the £42 million signing. Mangala has been linked with Fenerbahce’s rivals Galatasaray recently, with reports from Turkey that the Istanbul giants are forging a partnership with the Premier League champions, but the latest news is that Fenerbahce want the Frenchman.
A traditional giant of Turkish football, Fenerbahce are enduring a horror campaign and are stuck in the Süper Lig relegation zone at the halfway point, with just 16 points from 17 games.
In desperate need of some reinforcements, especially in the defence, the club have contacted representatives of Mangala in recent days to learn the conditions of a transfer.
With the player out of contract in June, City would likely agree to a loan deal if a club were to take on the player’s substantial salary for the remainder of his deal.
Fenerbahce expect to hear back in the coming days about how possible a transfer is.
