Manchester City are one of several prominent European clubs in pursuit of Reinier Jesus Carvalho, the latest star of Flamengo’s academy, Spanish newspaper AS reports.
City are joined by Real Madrid, Juventus and AS Roma in the hunt for 16-year-old Reinier, an attacking midfielder who represents Brazil at under-17 level.
Like many recent Brazilian prodigies, such as Vinicius Jr. and Rodrigo, both of whom were snapped up by Real Madrid, Reinier has a huge release clause of €70 million (£63.4 million) which interested clubs would undoubtedly try to negotiate.
The right-footed midfielder is under contract with Flamengo until 2021 and is considered one of the brightest upcoming talents in Brazil.
City have a heavy scouting presence in South America, which has led to the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Marlos Moreno arriving directly from the continent in recent years.
