Pep Guardiola refused to criticise his team after they fell to their first Premier League defeat at the Etihad Stadium since the Manchester derby loss in April today.
Crystal Palace pulled off a stunning upset, taking their few chances with clinical precision – something Guardiola pointed out in his post-match interviews.
“We started quite decent and created chances. We scored a fantastic goal and after they passed the halfway line they scored,” Guardiola told the BBC.
“The third goal… we cannot concede the penalty we conceded. We have to try and avoid it. Football is like this. Three shots on goal and three goals.
“It’s complicated but we fight until the last second. We are in December and we will try and recover and try and win games again.”
In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Pep said City performed well, but fell victim to Palace taking their chances.
Pep said: “The first two times Crystal Palace crossed our halfway line they scored. We played good. Their second goal was an incredible goal.
“There are a lot of games to play. We have to recover mentally and recover our physicality.”
City have no time to dwell on today’s defeat as they travel to Leicester on Boxing Day in need of a win to try and gain some ground on Liverpool, who are four points clear at the top after today’s result.
