Football fans could be spared another Jorginho style transfer saga next summer, with the agent of Ajax sensation Frenkie de Jong suggesting his next club will be decided long before then.
Ali Dursan, who represents the 21-year-old midfielder, told Voetbal International that the De Jong camp want a decision made quickly to allow the player to focus on his football.
“A decision [on his next club] will be taken in the coming weeks,” Dursan revealed. “So after the Christmas holidays the player can focus solely on football.”
Ajax face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League so naturally De Jong will want to be focused on that huge game in addition to Ajax’s Eredivisie challenge.
There seem to be three clubs with a chance of signing De Jong at this stage: Manchester City, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
In Catalonia, they seem sure that he favours a move to Barcelona, though there are reports that the La Liga giants have struck a deal to sign PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot next year when his contract is up.
The future of Frenkie de Jong should be cleared up one way or another in the coming weeks – will he be Pep Guardiola’s Fernandinho successor at the Etihad or decide his future lies elsewhere?
