Following Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Lyon in France, it wasn’t Tanguy Ndombele but rather another OL midfielder, Houssem Aouar, who Pep Guardiola reserved most of his praise for.
The 20-year-old was outstanding against City with a cultured passing display in Lyon’s midfield, and soon after it was revealed that Aouar is now very much on Guardiola’s radar as a potential signing.
Any hope City have of signing Aouar has been boosted by the player revealing his interest in being coached by Pep.
Speaking to RMC Sport in France, the French-Algerian player spoke glowingly of the Catalan tactician and admitted a desire to work with him.
“Yes, for me he [Pep Guardiola] is a fascinating coach of conviction, motivation. He’s a coach who does what he wants,” Aouar said.
“We have a common way of seeing football. I share his view and the way his teams play. It’d be nice to be coached by a manager like him.”
For now, any transfer is unlikely, with Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas tonight shutting the door on any imminent transfer for Aouar, who is also attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal in England.
