USA goalkeeper Zack Steffen reportedly passed a medical and signed a contract to join Manchester City on Thursday, a deal that will set back the Premier League champions an initial £6 million.
City can’t officially sign anyone until January and there has been no confirmation of the deal from the club yet, but a fellow MLS goalkeeper appears to have confirmed that the transfer has gone through.
Commenting on Steffen’s latest Instagram post, Chicago Fire goalkeeper Patrick McLain commented ‘Congrats on the new team dude, crush it over there!’.
It looks to be pretty much confirmation of the highly-rated 23-year-old making the move from Columbus Crew to Manchester City.
Steffen is tipped to become Ederson’s back-up option in the net, but with a work permit most likely difficult to obtain right away, he is expected to be loaned out in January, possibly to Patrick Vieira’s Nice.
