Kevin De Bruyne will return to Manchester City training in about a week ahead of his latest comeback from a lengthy injury, Pep Guardiola confirmed today.
Just a handful of matches after returning from a two-month lay-off, City’s Belgian maestro was injured again during the Carabao Cup win over Fulham at the beginning of November.
Although he had hoped to return in time for either the Bournemouth or Watford games, City have decided to ensure he returns when he is fully fit, and that means he will miss Saturday’s clash with his former club Chelsea.
In the embargoed portion of his pre-Chelsea press conference, Guardiola revealed that KDB will be back in training in one week or so, while Aguero will also be back soon – although Guardiola’s wording was quite confusing.
“I think he will be back training in maybe one week,” said Pep. “I said many times, I’d like to have Kevin available, but we try to not put pressure on one player and instead on everyone involved to make a good team.
“He is coming back. Sergio also in the next few days and weeks.
“Kevin was incredible last season but Gundogan and Bernardo have been outstanding. He will see the pressure. My target as a manager is bring out the best in them and that the best thing.”
