One of the many players on the books of Manchester City who has never kicked a ball for the first team, Yangel Herrera, is back in Manchester following the end of a two-year loan spell at New York City FC.
Signed from Atlético Venezuela on 31 January 2017, the Venezuelan international was immediately sent to sister club NYCFC on loan and caught the eye there with some good performances.
His form in the Big Apple led to interest from Europe, with City turning away interest from Ligue 1 side and recent Champions League opponents Lyon, preferring him to continue his development in the United States.
With his two-year loan stint over, Herrera is back in Manchester and posted a photograph of himself and a colleague dining in the city.
It’s unclear what Pep Guardiola plans to do with the highly-rated 20-year-old, but having featured regularly for his national team, he would stand a better chance of obtaining a work permit now than before if the City manager decided to utilise him.
Realistically, another loan spell – perhaps to a competitive European league – beckons in the January transfer window for Herrera.
