Barcelona have placed Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany on a shortlist as they look to solve a crisis created by Samuel Umtiti needing knee surgery, the Mirror reports.
Kompany, a target for Barcelona in the past, is joined by another Premier League veteran, former Chelsea man Branislav Ivanovic, with the Catalan giants hoping to acquire an experienced defender on loan in January.
City are almost certain to reject any approach for the iconic skipper, even though he is a peripheral figure these days and has made only three Premier League starts this season.
Despite becoming more of a back-up these days, with Aymeric Laporte and John Stones the preferred combination, Kompany’s presence in the dressing room is invaluable and he remains a crucial part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in June but all parties are relaxed about the situation with a high level of trust having developed during the Belgian’s decade at the club.
