Manchester City are in search of a midfielder who can replace Fernandinho soon, but are always looking far ahead too, and are about to secure the signing of a player who could one day play in Pep Guardiola’s City midfield.
City are set to sign Portugal under-19 midfielder Tiago Dantas, who plays for Benfica B and is described as a ‘sensation’ by the Portuguese media.
According to the Record newspaper, most of the details for the transfer have already been sorted, with a full agreement expected in January.
Dantas, who turns 18 on Christmas Eve, is out of contract in June 2019 and will move to the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer, with City only having to pay some training fees to Benfica.
Tiago has been tipped in his homeland to become a star at Benfica in the coming years, and is a creative midfielder quite small in stature, but with excellent technique and an ability to read the game.
Upon joining Manchester City, he can be expected to join up with the under-23 side playing in the Premier League 2.
