Manchester City are close to securing a £61 million deal for Ajax sensation Frenkie de Jong – if you believe a report by the Sunday People, and you’d be forgiven for being sceptical after last summer’s Jorginho saga!
There does seem to be something to stories that Pep Guardiola wants the 21-year-old Dutch international as his Fernandinho successor, with reports from England, Spain and Holland in recent months claiming City have a serious interest in Frenkie.
The player’s agent, Ali Dursan, has today been asked to respond to the latest claims that City are on the verge of sealing a deal for next summer, but like so many agents do, wouldn’t give a decisive answer.
“I can neither confirm or deny it,” Dursan said as quoted by Mundo Deportivo. “You should ask [Ajax director of football] Marc Overmars, I send all the clubs who contact me to him.”
Dursan’s lack of a denial could be viewed as a positive by City fans, but doesn’t really offer any definite update on if Frenkie de Jong will be a Manchester City player come next season.
