David Silva believes Manchester City will be in good hands when he and his fellow aging veterans leave the club, pointing to namesake Bernardo Silva – viewed as El Mago’s successor – as an example.
Speaking as an ambassador for Gran Canarian resort ANFI, Silva showered praise on the Portuguese international who has been a revelation at City since his £43 million transfer from Monaco in the summer of 2017.
“He’s a brilliant player with lots of quality and works very hard,” David Silva said of Bernardo Silva. “He’s got a huge amount of quality.
“Football moves on, players come and plays go. But there’s always someone to come in and fill your shoes and we’re lucky that we’ve got lots of players to do that.”
The 32-year-old is under contract with Manchester City until June 2020 and it’s quite possible that he’ll end a glittering stay at he Etihad at that point, after completing his tenth season at the club.
However, with Bernardo Silva on board and Phil Foden developing into a fine young player, it looks like Pep Guardiola won’t be short of replacements – even if the magician David Silva can never truly be replaced.
