German publication Der Spiegel has continued its ‘Manchester City Exposed’ series, which draws information from hacked documents acquired by infamous whistleblower site Football Leaks.
Part three isn’t quite as explosive as its predecessors, focuses heavily on the power wielded by the top men at Manchester City and their recruitment of Pep Guardiola, with one very interesting revelation.
It’s alleged that the date on Pep Guardiola’s first contract signed with Manchester City was October 10, 2015. Whilst it’s clear and was announced that Guardiola was joining City long before his Bayern Munich deal expired, October 2015 was even earlier than thought, as it was just two months into his last season in charge at Bayern Munich.
The contract also stated that Guardiola was to earn £13.5 million in his first season at City, a salary that would rise to £16.75 million one year later. Guardiola has, of course, since renewed his contract until 2021 on updated terms.
