Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Paulo Fonseca isn’t shy about showering praise on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and has done so prior to all four of the two sides’ meetings over the past year or so.
Ahead of tomorrow’s game, the fourth and possibly finally game between the teams for a long time, Fonseca has again spoken highly of the Premier League champions, who saw off Shakhtar 3-0 in the reverse fixture.
Asked the difference between the current City and last year’s, the Portuguese tactician said: “There isn’t much difference. The same coach and players. A really strong team who continue showcasing some special, very attractive play idea for those who love football.
“The appearance of one or two new players added even more attributes to the team, but in any case, those teams are similar.”
Asked to highlight City’s weaknesses and if Shakhtar can make use of them, Fonseca was quite blunt
“No, Man City have got no weaknesses,” he said.
Fonseca also confirmed that Brazilian ace Taison is fit to start at the Etihad Stadium, but Brazilian-born Ukraine international Marlos is not yet ready to start and may be among the substitutes.
“Those are two completely different situations. Taison has already appeared in the recent game and is ready to appear tomorrow in the starting lineup.
“The Marlos situation is a bit different. He’s trained only for the last two days and is not yet in his best form to appear from the off.”
