Shakhtar Donetsk should be able to call upon the services of Brazilian-born duo Taison and Marlos when they visit the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The pair missed the reverse fixture in Ukraine through injury, but Taison returned at the weekend, replacing Dentinho in Shakhtar’s 2-1 win over Dynamo Kyiv at the weekend. Meanwhile, Marlos returned to training today and is expected to fly to Manchester with the squad.
Their return is a huge boost to Paulo Fonseca although if his side are outclassed as they were in October, it may make no difference.
“The absences of Taison and Marlos was evident then, as they are the players who can make a difference in those moments,” were the words written in Segodnya after City thrashed Shakhtar 3-0 and became the first English team to win away there.
Fonseca couldn’t hide his admiration for City when speaking of Shakhtar’s next opponents.
“This game will be a real test for us,” said Fonseca. “We know that it’ll be difficult. We all know about the quality of City and, in my opinion, they are the best club in the world, but we have conditions to win.”
