There has been talk for several years that the City Football Group could expand into the growing, cash-rich Chinese football market and, according to a report from Italy, it’s finally set to happen.
According to Calcio8Cina, the Manchester City linked group has already bought a club in China but is waiting for the end of the Chinese season to officially announce it.
The club in question will be built in city of Chengdu, the most important in west China. The area currently has three clubs: Sichuan Annapurna, Sichuan Jiniu and Chengdu Better City.
The Chinese season, for the lower leagues, will end in a few weeks and for that reason the announcement of the City Football Group’s new club could be very close. The CFG is 13% Chinese owned and that could play a part in this expansion.
Little else is known about the team yet, but supposing it’s true, a Chinese club will soon join the global network of clubs in the CFG.
