Australian international Daniel Arzani is expected to return to Manchester City from loan club Celtic after being ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
The 19-year-old, a summer arrival from sister club Melbourne City, had struggled to break into Brendan Rodgers’ first team, but 22 minutes into his debut against Dundee during the week he was forced off hurt.
And it is very much a worse case scenario for the highly-rated Socceroo, with Rodgers today confirming that initial scans show Arzani has suffered an ACL injury, which if confirmed by a second scan, could rule him out for 9 to 12 months.
“Unfortunately, it looks like cruciate injuries for both Daniel Arzani and Eboue Kouassi,” Rodgers said at his press conference. “It’s disappointing for them because they’ve been working hard to get into the team.”
Arzani is on loan at Celtic for two seasons, although City do have the option to recall him at the end of the first if things aren’t going well, and this setback coupled with a lack of game time in recent months may prompt Blues bosses to reassess the player’s future next year.
