Three Manchester City youth players have been named on the Guardian’s ‘Next Generation 2018’ list, published on Thursday.
Defender Eric Garcia was joined by the skilful Nabil Touaizi on the list.
Garcia joined the club for a nominal fee from Barcelona back in 2017, much to the dismay of his club who viewed him as the next big product of La Masia.
David Cartlidge told City Watch back in 2017 that the defender is comparable to Gerard Pique.
He said: “The similarities between the two in terms of playing style are quite striking. The ability to use the ball efficiently, in terms of passing range and being comfortable in possession, moving out of defence – it’s all there.”
Nabil Touaizi also joined City from a Spanish outfit: Valencia.
He is very highly rated in the City youth setup and some see him as the next big star to make the step up to Pep Guardiola’s first team squad.
City owned Ivan Ilic, who is on loan at Red Star Belgrade, also made the prestigious list.
Looking back on previous lists, the Guardian have picked a number of players who went on to make the 2018 World Cup.
