Shakhtar Donetsk are expected to be without Brazilian star Taison for both Champions League matches against Manchester City after he was the victim of a horror challenge from Igor Kharatin in Shakhtar’s 1-1 draw with Zorya on Sunday.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder is a key player for Shakhtar and was lively in both matches against City during last year’s Champions League group stage.
He is expected to miss both the October and November ties between Shakhtar and City now with what is reported to be cruciate ligament damage that will sideline him for at least one month.
Incredibly the foul by Kharatin resulted in just a yellow card and was the type of challenge and outcome that City players and fans can relate to after a string or horror fouls weren’t properly punished last season.
City are second in a tight Group F in the Champions League just one point ahead of Shakhtar going into their double header.
