Many teams only see one strategy of playing against Manchester City, and that is to defend deep and hold out as long as possible – just as we saw against Brighton at weekend, before Raheem Sterling finally broke down the Seagulls’ stubborn defence in the 29th minute.
Some teams challenge the Premier League champions with a bolder approach though, with intense pressing and attacking – something Liverpool have benefited from doing under Jurgen Klopp.
And according to Hoffenheim midfielder Vincenzo Grifo, there will be no sitting back from Julian Nagelsmann’s adventurous team, who plan to attack the visitors tonight.
“We want to give it all we’ve got. Attack, the whole 90 minutes!” Grifo declared, suggesting that Hoffenheim will be trying to put the pressure on City from the off.
The 25-year-old’s teammate, Ádám Szalai, is expecting a great game between two managers known for their tactical brilliance.
Hungary striker Szalai said: “It’ll be an eventful encounter, I think. They’re a massive team with an incredibly good coach.
“I think it’ll be one of the most interesting matches in the history of TSG Hoffenheim. And not just because it’s in the Champions League, but also because the clash carries a great deal of significance for the coach and players.
“Pep Guardiola has a plan and won’t be coming here to get a draw. And anyone who knows Julian Nagelsmann knows that it’ll be a tactical highlight for every fan.”
