Two of Manchester City’s brightest young players are still in the hunt for the prestigious Golden Boy award after the latest cull of 20 names.
Phil Foden and Manu Garcia were voted into the next stage, which features 40 names, with Brahim Diaz not surviving the latest set of cuts and Lukas Nmecha eliminated in the initial reduction from 100 to 80 players.
The initial list of 100 is progressively cut by 20 each month until the final 20 emerge, with some big names such as Kylian Mbappé, Justin Kluivert and Matthijs de Ligt also in the voting.
Foden needs little introduction at this point, the 18-year-old having broken into the Man City first-team fold and recently scoring his first goal against Oxford United in the Carabao Cup.
Manu Garcia continues to fly under the radar a little, given that he has been loaned out three seasons running, and is currently stationed at Toulouse in France’s Ligue 1 – and was recently named in the L’Equipe Team of the Week.
Past winners of the award include Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Isco, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and the most recent, Kylian Mbappé.
