Three of Hoffenheim’s first-team stars are doubts to face Manchester City when the Premier League champions visit on Tuesday for next their Champions League fixture.
All three of the players in question are defenders with captain Kevin Vogt (thigh), Ermin Bicakcic (calf) and Havard Nordtveit (thigh) missing as Hoffenheim fell to a 2-1 home defeat against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Julian Nagelsmann played with three at the back against Leipzig, but they shipped two second half goals, both scored by Yussuf Poulsen, before former Leicester City man Andrej Kramaric struck a consolation goal deep into added time at the end.
The result brought to an end a three-match unbeaten run for City’s next Champions League opponents, after they drew away at Shakhtar Donetsk in their group stage opener, before drawing 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and winning away at Hannover during the week.
City will be desperate to pick up a win when they visit the Rhein-Neckar-Arena on Tuesday night having slumped to a home defeat against Lyon in their first group stage fixture. A second defeat would put Pep Guardiola’s men, who have been priced as the bookies’ favourites to win the Champions League, in trouble with four games left.
