Manchester City are set to open talks with teenage sensation Phil Foden to secure his long-term future at the club, the Daily Mail reports.
Foden’s stock shot up again on Tuesday night with a big performance against Oxford United in the Carabao Cup when he played a part in the first two goals before securing the win with his first ever City goal.
The 18-year-old is determined to stay at his boyhood club and it is reported that talks are planned imminently to extend Foden’s deal, which currently expires in 2020. All parties expect talks to go smoothly and conclude with City’s academy golden boy penning a new deal.
City are expected to offer Foden a deal that will tie him to the club well into his 20s, allowing him to continue his development under Pep Guardiola and hopefully become the local lad in the team City fans have been craving for many years.
Pep was full of praise for the midfielder after last night’s win over Oxford.
“Phil celebrated like it was his first goal,” said Guardiola. “The guy is special – he’s a City fan and he loves the club.
“You see it in his behaviour – every single action. He is already a great football player.
“He also had an amazing assist and he was involved in the first goal.”
