53-year-old Roger East will take charge of his first Manchester City match for over a year when the Premier League champions face struggling League One side Oxford United in the Carabao Cup third round this coming week.
Tuesday’s game will see City face their lowest ranked opposition in quite some time, and East will be the man with the whistle.
East’s most recent City appointment was all the way back in October 2017 when he officiated the Blues’ 3-0 win over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.
Although VAR is being used in six of this week’s Carabao Cup ties, Oxford vs. City will not be one of them.
Pep Guardiola is expected to make wholesale changes as City begin their defence of the cup, which is the lowest priority of the four competitions City are involved in this season.
