£25million Manchester United flop Memphis Depay returned to Manchester today with his Lyon teammates, hoping to spring a big upset against the blue side of the city tonight.
Depay, who failed to impress during his spell at Old Trafford, has been a hit in Ligue 1 for Lyon and is expected to start tomorrow night when Premier League champions Manchester City host OL.
And despite a disappointing one-and-a-half seasons at Manchester United, where he seemed more interested in the lifestyle than football, Depay still appears loyal to his former club and has branded Manchester as ‘red’.
“It’s the first time I’ve come back to Manchester after I left,” he said.
“That feels special and I’m happy to come back here and play against Man City.
“For sure, the city is still red and we will try to get a good result against the Blues.”
Is Manchester red? Well, not on the pitch, that’s for sure. Manchester United have failed to finish above City since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and though Jose Mourinho will be hoping to change that this season, the reds have already fallen four points behind stylish City after five weeks of fixtures.
