Manchester City had a scouting presence at Nice’s 1-0 win over Lyon in late August with several players thought to have been watched, according to an exclusive report by Le 10 Sport.
The headline name mentioned as being on City’s radar is Wylan Cyprien, Nice’s promising 23-year-old midfielder, who played the full 90 minutes as Patrick Vieira’s side pulled off a big win at the Lyon’s Groupama Stadium.
Before he suffered a serious injury in March 2017, it is claimed by Le 10 Sport that Pep Guardiola planned to make an approach to sign Cyprien, and City’s representative was present to assess the player’s current level six months after his return to action.
In the coming months, if the midfielder shows a high level it is possible that City could make a concrete bid for the former France under-21 international.
Three Lyon players are also named as having likely been watched by City’s scout. There ‘is no doubt’ that Tanguy Ndombele, the 21-year-old midfielder capturing the attention of many top European clubs, was one of them. It was recently claimed by L’Equipe that a ‘Big 4’ English club had a €50million bid for Ndombele rejected.
The other two names pitched in the report are France international Nabil Fekir, 25 – who almost joined Liverpool in the summer – and exciting left-back Ferland Mendy, 23, both of whom are said to have been watched.
