Manchester City are showing considerable interest in versatile Real Betis left-back Júnior Firpo with Pep Guardiola personally requesting information on the youngster, El Confidencial reports.
Firpo, who recently turned 22, is considered one of the most exciting young talents in Spain, and the left-footer is also capable of playing further up the pitch on the left or as a left-sided centre-back.
And it is reported that Dominican Republic-born Firpo, who has been summoned for Spain under-21 duty, is ‘on the agenda’ of City and Guardiola.
Firpo is said to be ‘in the thinking’ of Guardiola, who has personally requested information on the player from Man City scouts in recent months. The City coach is a lover of such players who are good on the ball and can contribute to the attack from a defensive position.
The player has a prohibitive €60million (£54.2million) release clause and has only recently renewed his Betis contract until June 30, 2023, so any approach from City would not be imminent.
The Premier League champions will continue to monitor Firpo’s performances in La Liga and determine if he would be worth a big-money offer.
