Three Manchester City starlets still in for Golden Boy award as list is trimmed to 60

Three of Manchester City’s brightest young players are still in the hunt for the prestigious Golden Boy award after the latest cull of 20 names.

Brahim Diaz, Phil Foden and Manu Garcia were voted into the next stage, which features 60 names, with Lukas Nmecha eliminated in the initial reduction from 100 to 80 players.

The initial list of 100 is progressively cut by 20 each month until the final 20 emerge, with some big names such as Kylian Mbappé, Justin Kluivert and Matthijs de Ligt also in the voting.

Teenage pair Foden and Diaz played games for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City first team last season, both featuring enough in the Premier League to earn winners’ medals. Manu Garcia spent the campaign on loan at NAC Breda, making a big impression, and joined French Ligue 1 side Toulouse on loan for the season, registering an assist in an impressive performance at weekend.

Past winners of the award include Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Isco, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and the most recent, Kylian Mbappé.
