Raheem Sterling has withdrawn from the England squad to face Spain and Switzerland due to a back problem.
Gareth Southgate has decided not to call anyone up to replace the Manchester City star and there is no word how bad the problem is.
Sterling struck a fantastic goal against Newcastle at the weekend to break the deadlock in a game City eventually won 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
With Kevin De Bruyne and Claudio Bravo sidelined long-term, the hope will be Sterling’s back problem is not another serious one, although the wings are not positions Pep Guardiola is short on options for.
England face Spain on Saturday evening before playing Switzerland in Leicester on Tuesday 11 September. City trio John Stones, Kyle Walker and Fabian Delph will all feature for the Three Lions.
Real Madrid had been planning to scout Sterling during the international break according to reports, but he will be playing no part in England’s next two fixtures.
