From Turkey: Fenerbahce reach ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Manchester City player

Turkish giants Fenerbahce have reached an agreement in principle to sign Douglas Luiz on loan from Manchester City, according to Ajansspor.

Fenerbahce have just terminated negotiations to sign Mexico midfielder Marco Fabián, despite the player arriving in Istanbul on Sunday and being photographed with a Fenerbahce scarf.

And according to Ajansspor, it will be City’s Brazilian youngster Douglas Luiz who instead heads to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on a season-long loan deal.

The club’s rivals Galatasaray were also linked with a move for 20-year-old Douglas, who was denied a visa to play in England by the Home Office, despite Pep Guardiola wanting to keep him around as back-up for Fernandinho.

And if this report is to be believed, Douglas will soon be playing alongside the likes of Islam Slimani, Andre Ayew and Roberto Soldado.

It must be noted that the Turkish press isn’t known for its reliability, and there are also reports from Scotland today that Celtic are in for the prodigious young Brazilian – but with days left in Europe’s transfer windows, a decision is imminent on the player’s future.
